JIm Workshop day 2

Today we learned that you have to let go and words don't make the emotions but emotions make the words. Personally I learned that imagination is what makes things seem better or worse then they really are. he told us to imagine our favorite memory and keep thinking about it but I guess I just tried to fight the feeling and emotions it just left me tired. I guess being weak isn't that you let your emotions out but sometimes it's a instinct to hold it in.
Some people laughed at some of the serious times and makes you wonder maybe that is their way of not getting emotionally attached. I've learned a lot and it is just about embracing.

What a day....

Well today would have to be the most inspiring day of workshops. it really was life changing and glad to spend it with all of friends. "Everyone is a zombie just find the child inside of you and don't forget. You may have forgotten that little kid but now that's where you get your creativity." Just what got to me the most was that he was right and as usual I just tried to drown all of the problems out. After looking around you see all of your friends or not and know that they all have a story and have have found a core relationship with each activity. I knew for sure that I had someone that I was yelling at while he told us to yell. It was also where you see what people really have problems with. I can definitely say I let my guard down during this activity.  Sometimes I learn that emotions are what causes our drive to creativity and never resent them. Everyone has to break down one day, I guess today was the day.

Drawing to Paint

You know how people say that tracing is so easy? well, those people have no clue what they are talking about.
Today in art workshops we had drawn in blocks ans shapes instead of drawing for drawing.
It may should complicated but once you find the shades and relation to each other you get the hang of things. The shapes that you draw with charcoal is really just making decisions and not focus on making it look like the features because it will just form into it. I definitely learned that being accurate takes the fun out of the distortion.

Day 5! only one more day left........

There is only one more day of workshops!!! I will definitely miss Margaret a lot but I'm really excited to see what everyone has been doing in their workshops. We might not have been taking pictures for the Coo Febs but we might just steal pictures from the photo group. These past workshops have been so much fun it's hard to believe it's over. When everyone goes their separate ways to go to workshops it is like they all have a secret they can't wait to reveal. With only one more day I'm just wondering if we have time to finish our works. Friday is most definitely going to be a busy day.

Day 4: Workshops

Alright so the shared obsession was Dexter and such a coincidence!!On Friday  I had time to work on my paper mache puppet and working and being messy was a lot of fun. Some people hate the feeling but I feel like its a chance to really have fun with what your working with. And not recommend to high five other people if they hate the feeling. Not the best feeling in the world , found out by Mairead and Justin.

Day 3 of workshops!!!!

Today was the third day of workshops and seeing Margaret every time we always learn something new and or have something in common with her. today we found out the she had the same obsession with Molly and Caitlin! At first I thought that we had all the time in the world because we had six weeks of classes but I was way off. We only have six classes to pick the brains of these amazing teachers and every class will pass by so fast.   i hope that in these last classes I would get everything done and be able to loo back and see that  I can accomplish this.

Day 2: workshops

Today we started on our projects out of newspaper and masking tape. Making a puppet is not as easy as it seems. You have to make sure that everything is sturdy and strong so it will not collapse when you put on the paper mache. When you have newspaper it's hard to make the detailed shapes and make it look proportional and smooth. Margaret was amazing and make a simple figure in less then 20 minutes and with only a couple pieces of tape while I on the other hand just kept on wrapping and wrapping.  After three hours I finally got the head and body with legs but still have more to do.

Workshop day one

Today the Coofebs got to meet Margaret DeLima. I at first I thought the she will be so intimidating and all business because her writing makes her sound so intelligent but she was inspiring and had so many great ideas. So the big project that we are doing is going to make an artwork of the seven sins and get to auction them off for a charity event. I've always been into charities and donating so I am looking forward to donating my piece and hope to finish it off. From the art works that she has shown us her work seems to come from childhood memories that seemed to be in her mind.  But one thing she said really stood out to me and is very true. The power of the art seems to dull well you look back. The fire that has you so motivated to make the art fades after a while when you look back at the artwork. Sometimes it is easier to explain the art after you let the fire die down but when you still have the anger or emotion inside your artwork the art seems to be strong and bold like it represents your feelings.
The idea I have its to make the sin of pride be represented through a puppet hanging. Animals can also represent some of the deadly sins. Like a snake for envy or a seagull for gluttony. So the animal for pride would be a peacock. With this puppet I will incorporate some of the peacock features so it will seem like puppet morphed with a peacock to represent pride. From that the meaning is the this sin can only be control by man and how this sin can not work alone.

Margaret DeLima

I am so excited to work with Margaret DeLima because it would show me or help me see what I may have to do during my internship. She is a visual artist and is trained in working with clay with happens to be a coincidence because I had thought of a new clay idea I had been meaning to do for a while but didn't know how to make it happen. She also knows how to work adobe photoshop and illustrator which I have recently learned how to use and would love to get a few pointers since I'm not that great on the computer. From the art works I have seen her made it seems that she enjoys working with material and incorporating mix media. The people she mold mainly seem to be self portraits which interest me to see how she sees herself through her work. What I would also like to do is just see what techniques she likes to use because it seems like we do different types or arts. Margaret seems to be more hands on and I would love to learn about how she makes her art works because not everything can always be drawn on paper.

Commericals.

The best part of your week is when you know that you have finish the work that you needed to complete. I was glad that Kalli and I were able to finish the commercial and came out really well.  I wish I would have payed
more attention  to the editing so I would know more for future references. Looking around the room you can see everyone so into their work and all of the different ideas that people have. From old grandmas to we explodes thing Besides that I am looking forward to everything that we are going to do. We have The Prisoner, wall paintings, books, commercials, and STAC live. this is going to be the busiest year I have ever had.Oh and thank you Kalli for doing an amazing job with the editing.

Daily pratice

My daily practice is to write about anything that interest me. At  first I was going to do a the fashion blog but turned into what I found interesting to me that day. In the beginning I had no clue about what I was going to write about fashion. but I started writing why I liked the outfits and what I would pair them up with but I didn't seem to interest me enough so now i have decided to just write about things that entertain or strike my eye. I have a good feeling that i might not be ale to keep up with writing everyday but I'll try to a least write as much as I can.

So glad its over.

As you can tell by my title I am so happy that portfolios are over. I had everything I was gonna do planned out and then I get a email that said everything is due on Wednesday. So I start rushing to get everything finished and I should really stop procrastinating. The Empty Space may have been confusing at some points but overall i think that he has a way of thinking that no one would have realized. he likes to get start to the point but sometimes go against his own thought and you can tell. I think that he is brilliant even though I was about to fall asleep. what i got from the whole chapter was that there was suppose to be balance on stage.

Book Binding and Tell No One

Book Binding was actually fun, whereas I thought I was going to be boring. But I wish i would have brought in a better material to use because a couple people were also using bandannas. Also I don't think you need to know the numbers people have because from some of the books you can tell whose they are.
When I got an email the first thing my eyes landed on was the subject saying M&A /////////////. To be honest I almost had a heart attack until I saw it was from Luke. Tell No One was one amazing movie and when I tried to explain it to my friends because my mind was so screwed I didn't know where to start explaining. The plot was so complicated and the connection that all of the characters had to each other was almost impossible to explain.

Trip to go see Swan Lake

My favorite part of this trip would definitely have to be the community gardens. They were beautiful and so creative in a whole different way. When my group walked through one of the gardens that were open I was amazed about how much you can do with something so simple. My art teacher always told me that i could always use junk for pieces and i never realized how much you can do with everyday items until I saw the gardens. also the gardens really showed how much people cared about their community in order to put effort into making a plain piece of land so unique.
Also it seem very lucky that my group and Luke got to see one of the buildings before it was going to get renovated. Inside the building you can tell that it was pretty old and use to be a place where they were religious. What I didn't understand was why they were closing down the building except for the fact that it was filthy. Overall the experience to see the building was great and was different.

be kind rewind

This week went by pretty fast and was lots of fun. The be kind rewind movies were more exciting then they sounded. When I talk to my friends they were telling e how they saw Jesus running down the halls. I could only imagine their reactions when they saw everyone in STAC running around. I definitely learned a lot from this  and how you have to really pace yourself. From all of the running around and filming (hoping you don't mess up) it was a learning experience. Also not to use so many places in different scenes when you only have one hour!

A very long week

The Prisoner this week was actually the clearer episode of The prisoner to understand but what confused me was why Number 6 did not confront anyone that he was the real Number 6, not the fraud. If I was in Number 6's place I definitely would not no what to do. If I had confronted Number 24 She might have been a spy and if I had confronted the fake Number 6 and Number 2 they would have brainwashed me (Number 6) again. Even though this episode is one of the clearer episodes of The Prisoner I can't say it is my favorite.
In the of the movie, To Sir, With Love was hard for me to catch on at first to what was going on because I do not usually watch old movies. Towards the end it was predictable that he would not take the job but what I thought the movie was gonna end like was that the students were gonna get mad that he was taking another job. parts of the ending was quite predictable while some weren't.

Best trip I have ever been on!

Since the beginning of my 14 years of life I have never been allowed during a field trip to go walk around the city alone with classmates. There are so many pictures taken and so many things to see that it would have definitely not have been as much fun if we had teachers tagging along our side (no offense Luke). It was absolutely the most fun I have had in a while. Being able to walk into a museum and know the artist there was very satisfying. Every where i turned there were a ton of people with accents which I have found to be remarkable. I tried guessing which accent was from where but towards the end I couldn't keep up at all! I was actually surprised to see Claudius Oldenburg work there because his work usually huge! I remember going to Whitey museum and seeing a 6 foot tall blow up ice pack. I consider his work to be amazing. I can definitely say I am looking forward to more STAC trips.

Psychogeography #2 (continue)

My favorite picture from this assignment will have to be the picture of these two fences with a thin spiderweb hanging faintly in the middle. The light may not hit the web at a good angle but I have to say it is the one that interests me the most.
